Why is my Wolf range igniter not sparking?

A Wolf range igniter that won't spark is almost always a moisture-soaked spark module, a cracked igniter electrode, a loose ignition wire harness, or food debris bridging the spark gap — not a failed control board.

A Wolf range igniter that clicks but doesn't spark, or that doesn't click at all, has a short list of likely causes — and the diagnosis changes by model.

The most common cause across all Wolf gas ranges is a moisture-soaked spark module. Spills under the burner caps, aggressive cleaning that drives water into the burner well, or simply months of cooking humidity can saturate the spark electrodes. The fix is mechanical: pull the burner caps and bases, dry the well thoroughly with a paper towel, leave the assembly off overnight to fully dry, and reseat. A meaningful fraction of "won't spark" calls resolve at this stage with no parts replaced.

The next most common cause is food debris bridging the spark gap between the electrode and the burner base. The spark needs a clean ceramic electrode and a defined gap to jump. Carbonized food, grease, or soap residue prevents arc formation. A non-metallic brush and a careful wipe with isopropyl alcohol clears the contact.

A cracked igniter electrode is the next layer. The white ceramic insulator on the spark electrode is brittle; a dropped burner cap or a hard cleaning swipe can chip the ceramic and short the spark to ground inside the burner well. Replacement is a $30 to $60 part on Wolf DF and GR Series and a 20-minute job on a cold range.

A loose ignition wire harness — usually at the connector behind the front control panel — produces an intermittent spark that works on some burners but not others. Tightening the harness restores function.

The spark module itself is the last suspect, not the first. A failed module typically affects all burners at once and produces no clicking sound. Replacement runs $200 to $350 on Wolf DF and M Series.

For any persistent ignition issue on a Wolf range that doesn't resolve with cleaning and drying, PRO MAX carries Wolf-specific igniter electrodes and spark modules for same-visit repair on Sacramento-area service calls.
